Periodontics deals with the diseases and treatment of the dental, bone and gingival tissues surrounding the teeth, provides the continuation of the acquired health.

Red, swollen and sensitive gingiva, gums that can easily be separated from teeth, inflammatory discharge between teeth and gums, swelling and gradually moving away from each other, gingival extraction, bad smell and taste in mouth show gum disease. The severity of these symptoms is parallel to the severity of the disease. That is, if there are mild symptoms, we can say that it is at an early stage of gum disease. When the severity of our symptoms increases, the severity of our gum disease also increases. For this reason, treatment of gingival diseases that are caught at the initial stage is very easy and takes place in a short time.

Curettage and straightening of the root surface may be recommended in addition to tooth cleaning in the treatment. Using a special set of tools, plaque and dental calculi are removed from the gingival pocket. The root surfaces are then smoothed to ensure a firm adhesion of the gingiva to the tooth. In cases where this treatment is not sufficient, gum operation is also on the agenda.

If the gum disease is not treated, it can result in loss of the tooth concerned.

In order to prevent gum disease, at least twice a day brushing the teeth, dental floss once a day, and regular dental visits every six months are required.
